JACKOPIERCE SAN MIGUEL DESTINATION SHOW 4/4/2020 FAQ's
WHY SHOULD I GO TO SAN MIGUEL?
It's amazing. We love this city, the warmth of the people, the restaurants, galleries, shops and hotels, the cobblestone streets, the gardens, cathedrals, etc. It's no wonder that Conde Nast rated it the #1 City in Mexico. NUMERO UNO! Check out our photos from 2014, 2016 & 2018.
WHAT AND WHERE IS SMA?
San Miguel de Allende (commonly called "San Miguel" or "SMA") is a mountain town with an elevation of 6,000 ft in Central Mexico. It is 167 miles NorthWest of Mexico City. It is basically unchanged since the 1600's and has cobblestone streets, cathedrals, parks, multicolored stucco buildings, shops, galleries, museums, gardens, courtyards, incredible restaurants, hotels and activities. The people are very warm, inviting and you can walk just about anywhere. It feels very safe and welcoming.
WHAT DOES THE PRESS SAY ABOUT SAN MIGUEL?

"Breezy blue skies and baroque architecture, San Miguel is a tropical haven in Central Mexico with candy-colored haciendas, rose-tinted turrets and romantic cobblestone streets." - New York Times
"Essential Mexican colonial loveliness... it's one of the country's most welcoming towns." - USA Today
WHAT DO OUR FANS SAY ABOUT JP IN SAN MIGUEL?
"A weekend in SMA with Jackopierce?? What's not to love? The city is now one of my favorites in the world! It's so charming with wonderful ambiance, food, and shopping. Cary and Jack put on an amazing show in an absolutely stunning location. This is definitely a bucket-list occasion for any JP fan." Ellen & Reid P. - Dallas, TX
"Wow! See Mexico like you have never seen it! No sand in your swimsuit - just sunshine, mountains and dry, crisp air. San Miguel was breathtaking, relaxing and safe. I have never experienced anything like it. Attending the most spectacular house party for a Jackopierce concert was just the icing on the perfect vacation cake. I recommend this trip to anyone!" Annie G. - Denver, CO
HOW DO I GET THERE?
Generally speaking from most major cities:
1. The most convenient way is to fly into QRO (50 miles away from SMA)
2. The next most convenient is to fly into BJX/Leon Airport (91 miles away)
3. The least expensive (can be nearly half the price on airfare) and least convenient is to fly into Mexico City Airport and then take our Ground Transportation (170 miles away). Ground Transportation will be over double what it is from QRO or BJX/Leon. We don't recommend this option.
Professional, trusted Ground Transportation has been arranged through our tried and true team at SMX Experience. Their team will pick you up from QRO (50 miles from SMA), BJX/Leon (90 miles away) or even Mexico City (170 miles away). Contact Jose Antonio to book. We have used them since 2014. They are great folks and have nice, clean cars. For a little extra, they will bring you ice-cold mini-Coronas and street tacos..HIGHLY recommended. We’ve had them every time and they are always excellent!
Jose Antonio also handles ATV Tours, Hot Balloon Rides, City Tours,Tequila Tastings, Cooking Classes, etc.
Mexico City is over 170 miles away and Ground Transportation is over double. We highly recommend you fly into QRO or BJX/Leon but if you really want to fly into Mexico City, Jose Antonio can arrange Ground Transportation for you.
WHERE DO I STAY?
There a LOT of options ranging from the simplest rooms-to-rent to world-class Hotels:
(Casa Hyder, where the event is being held, is full. Please see our recommendations below)
Starting at the Top:
We are taking over the gorgeous 14 room Boutique Hotel, Casa 1810. It is owned by a friend of ours and is walking distance to everything - including Casa Hyder where we will be having our Dinner/Show on April 4, 2020. It’s amazing and it’s our new favorite hotel in SMA. (these rooms sold out in 2 weeks last year)

Rosewood San Miguel For those of you who are not familiar, Rosewood is a very high-end Hotel Group with properties on par with Four Season/Ritz Carlton. The Rosewood San Miguel is a an absolutely gorgeous, full-service, luxury, 6-year-old property with only 67 rooms. While supplies last you can book the Rosewood San Miguel and get a $100 Spa Credit and Free Breakfast for 2 (about a $60 daily value - it's perhaps our favorite breakfast EVER) for mid to high night. They are also offering 3rd night free on 700sf suites and that turns out to be an amazing deal. To get these deals, book directly with Laura@PrecisionTravel.com or call 214-739-1991.
Our second favorite hotel is a very small, chic, slick, 33-room boutique hotel called Matilda. It has an incredible spa and restaurant. Hotel Matilda.
There is also a Belmond (formerly Oriental Express) Property called www.CasaSierraNevada.com which is really nice. It is a a group of several different haciendas put together with a wide range of room styles and choices. To get free breakfast and possible upgrade book directly with Laura@conciergeta.com or call 214-534-4043
In addition to the three above, these are several Hotels that came recommended by our friend, Guadalupe Alvarez who is a local event planner.
Hotel Casa Primavera & Antigua Capilla SanMiguel (only 7 rooms)
Hotel Real de Minas is the best lower mid-level hotel that I visited. Rooms can be as cheap as $80 per night. It's a 200 room, full-service hotel and spa that I would put in a "Best Western" Category. Nice enough and clean rooms but definitely not fancy.
And there are TONS of other Hotels and B&B's to find on your favorite travel website.
And there are condo and house rentals at Homeaway ,VRBO, and AirBnB.
WHAT'S THERE TO DO IN SMA?
This is a great list from TRIP ADVISOR to get you started.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
Check the weather before you leave but for the most part, SMA will be in the high 70's/low 80's in the Day and 50/60's at night. Our event is causal and jeans, boots, sandals for guys is great. Girls will be in everything from jeans to dresses. Our event will be OUTSIDE so make sure you bring an extra layer for when the sun goes down and it gets into the 60's. We won't have heaters so layer up. Here are photos from our events in 2014, 2016 & 2018 to give you a better idea what people generally wear.
The house is very "authentico" old Mexican, with lots of steps, uneven stone, brick and grass walkways - choose your footwear well. Remember my favorite saying, “Tequila and High Heela can be no bonita!"
And also remember, SMA is a mountain town at 6,000 ft elevation. It's always good to have an extra layer during the day in case the sun goes behind the clouds.
CAN I USE MY CELL PHONE IN MEXICO?
Yes - but you will definitely want to call your provider and get some type of plan for Text, Data, and Voice in Mexico. We got a good plan with AT&T and we did a plan that worked great for us so we could both use our phones, google, maps, text home, etc without worrying about exorbitant charges. I just asked the AT&T Rep to look at a typical month and see how much Text/Data/Voice I would probably use in a 3 or 4 day period and she created my plan based on that. Make sure you ask them about Data Roaming and stuff like that, too.
